Phoebe, mother of Hecate, was a goddess of prophecy and the moon. She adored her family and her daughters so much that she separated her moon power in to 3, and so the moon has 3 forms. To her foster daughter Selene she gave the sky, to Artemis the earth and to Hecate the lower world and the moon wrapped in darkness.
