Vicky & Wayne's wedding by the sea
It might sound cheesy, but one of the best bits of getting to know you guys, is getting to know you guys! What starts out as a conversation about whether we are the right people to make your wedding dress can turn into long term friendships - just like with Vicky.
Vicky and Wayne got married almost 2 years ago and since then we’ve worked with Vicky many times on various shoots and weddings (as Vicky is also a wedding photographer), and had many a laugh - occasionally over a tipple or two.
So we quizzed Vicky on what it’s like to be a Legend Bride…
Tell us about how you guys got together:
I've known Wayne for a VERY long time lol. He is actually my best friend's brother lol. We first met when I was in primary school. He was just "Lianne's Brother". Then again through high school, "Lianne's Brother". We even went on holiday together with their mum, dad, uncle and his girlfriend. He was always "Lianne's Brother".
One year we met him and his mates in town. When Lianne went home, he decided to, very drunkenly, tell me he fancied me. WEIRD! It wasn't until a few months later he actually made a move. I asked Lianne's permission first, obviously lol.
We went out in secret for a while, until my dad started asking questions. Busted! With a misunderstanding of words, Wayne has been called "Dwayne" ever since, and the rest is history.
I was always known for being Anti-Wedding/Marriage and Anti-Children. So for the next 8 yrs I subliminal put Wayne off. The year I set up in business, Wayne took over all the house bills, put his own career on hold while I built my baby from the ground up. During this first year of running my own business I realised I knew I didn't want anyone else.
Unfortunately Wayne wasn't going to step up to proposing as, to his knowledge, I would have said no. So, I had to do it! It was crazy fun and nerve wrecking. I wrapped two rings up in a shoe box, bubble wrap and extra paper so he would have no idea. He said yes straight away!
The rings I proposed with weren't our real wedding rings. I actually had my late Grandma Emily's gold ring incorporated into both mine and Wayne's white gold wedding bands. These are now the more precious things we own. Thank you to the incredible jeweller at FA Welch in Liverpool for making this possible.
Tell us about your dress
When looking for my dress, I had a clear vision in mind... This never panned out. I went to over 6 different traditional dress stops and felt out of place in every one. I did however figure out what I liked and didn't like in a wedding dress, so I knew bespoke was the way for me.
The second I stepped into Legend Bridal, I knew I was in the right place. Then I met Rachel.... Legend No1. She sat me down and got to know me a little first. She listened to everything I wanted and drew it there and then. She even had me rummaging through books of fabrics, and helping throughout to make sure I could have what I needed within my budget.
Then it was time for my first fitting. Enter Legend No2, Charlotte. Now these ladies know what they’re doing! My dress fit like a glove, and all the little details I wanted to change along the way, she took them and rose to the challenge. These angels were even more than happy to incorporate my Grandma's crochet into the design. I couldn't have been happier!
To go with my amazing dress, I need the perfect headpiece. For this I called my good friend Savannah from the spectacular GypsyBlood. She designed me a crown of my dried flowers and dangling pheasant feathers (that I got from my local game pub). She also designed my bridesmaid's headbands. (ps: yes, Lianne was one of my bridesmaids lol)
Where did you get married?
I grew up summer holidaying in North Wales and Wayne LOVES it up there, so we got married at Llandudno Town Hall, had fish and chips on Conwy Quay, while drinking pints at The Liverpool arms, and had the most intimate garden party at our families cottage in the hills.
Low key, intimate and completely US are the perfect things to describe our day. Walking through Llandudno and Conwy all dressed up was the most flattering experience. Everyone would stop and tell us how lovely we looked and congratulated us. The Liverpool arms were so accommodating considering we just rocked up, took up two picnic benches and ate our chippy outside lol.
Our wedding 'theme' was simply designed around us, our family and my late Grandma Emily. I chose dried flowers for the bouquets, table and head pieces, because Grandma would always say "Flowers are a waste of money, They're dead in a week!" This always stuck, and now they decorate my house.
We had yellow and grey colours, Gran's crochet and DIY glass jars with dried flowers decorated the marquee and our miss matched charity shop tables. We decorated the garden in bunting and candle jars, and the natural countryside did the rest.
Our Wedding Photographer was the completely bonkers Lisa Bancroft of Bancroft Photography. This lady is soooo much fun to be around. She keeps everyone at ease, especially a very nervous Wayne, and she fit in perfectly with our dry and sarcastic humour. I am a photographer myself, so choosing someone that would take our minds off the pressure was my number one priority and Lisa did just that. Our wedding images are so lovely and they capture our day perfectly. The only thing I would change is, I would listen to Lisa and have more group shots done, We only had 5 people in the day time and I couldn't even man up for that lol. I am a stubborn bugger lol.
Do you have any advice for other couples
Since our wedding and photographing so many more weddings, there a only a few things I would change. I would book one of the incredible bands/live acts I have recently met. Having that face to interact with on the dancefloor is so much more fun. I wouldn't have a 'Naked Cake'. This was another thing I was stubborn over. They dry out so quickly. Have more planned group shots with the photographer as we have already learned. Last but not least, I would have ignored my bridesmaids and ordered a cape from Legend lol.
Overall I can't thank the people involved enough. Our family and close friends for coming all the way out to Wales to celebrate with us, my Parents for footing the bill, and the wonderful suppliers that made our day even more special by listening and appreciating that we wanted something a little more us and a lot less traditional.
