A Love Worthy of the Underworld: Chloe & Liam's Gothic Wedding in Tuscany

Inspired by Hades and Persephone, Chloe and Liam's romantic Gothic wedding brought together ancient mythology, a neo-Gothic chapel, sunset-pink wedding dress and the golden warmth of the Tuscan countryside.

When we think of Gothic romance, our minds often wander towards candlelit castles, sweeping black gowns and the darker corners of history. But darkness and beauty have never belonged exclusively to the shadows. Sometimes, Gothic romance is found in the softest light. In ancient architecture warmed by the afternoon sun. In blush-pink fabric against weathered stone, or a love story inspired by the meeting of two very different worlds.

For Chloe and Liam, who married in Tuscany in September, their wedding was a beautiful expression of that contrast.

Inspired by Hades and Persephone, their celebration combined a rich palette of dark red, black and gold with the romantic softness of the Italian countryside. And at the heart of it all was a bride in sunset-pink Eos, a groom in a cream three-piece suit, and a love story more than a decade in the making.

A Love Story That Began Eleven Years Ago

Chloe and Liam first met at a party in their hometown eleven years ago. A year later, they became a couple, beginning a journey that would take them across the country and eventually to the Midlands, where they now live with their two much-loved cats.

Their engagement came during a beautiful holiday in Bali, where Liam proposed and the couple blessed Chloe's engagement ring in a temple fountain. It was a wonderfully meaningful beginning to the next chapter of their story, and perhaps a little glimpse of the personal rituals that would later become part of their wedding celebrations.

Hades, Persephone and the Romance of Tuscany

When planning their wedding, Chloe and Liam described their vision as romantic period Gothic, inspired by the mythology of Hades and Persephone. Their chosen palette of deep red, gold and black brought richness and drama, while the Tuscan countryside offered an unexpectedly gentle backdrop.

With vineyards nearby and a beautiful neo-Gothic chapel at their venue, they found a setting that embraced both sides of their vision. There is something particularly lovely about that juxtaposition. The mythology of Hades and Persephone is bound up with the changing seasons, the relationship between the worlds above and below, and the eternal cycle of nature. And while their story has been interpreted in many different ways over the centuries, its imagery of shadow and sunlight, growth and transformation feels especially at home in a landscape as rich and timeless as Tuscany.

Chloe and Liam didn't need to recreate an imagined underworld to celebrate their love of Gothic romance, they simply allowed the things they loved to exist together.

Eos: A Wedding Dress in the Colours of Sunset

For her wedding dress, Chloe chose Eos by Legend Bridal, in our beautiful soft sunset-pink colourway, and we couldn't imagine a more wonderful gown for the setting.

Named for the Greek goddess of the dawn, Eos carries a mythology of her own. A goddess who brings light to the world, heralding the beginning of a new day. There is something rather poetic about Chloe choosing a gown inspired by the dawn for a wedding inspired by Hades and Persephone. A meeting of light and darkness, woven through the story of the day. Rather than choosing a traditional black Gothic wedding dress, Chloe embraced the softness of pink, allowing her gown to sit beautifully within the romantic atmosphere of the celebration.

Liam complemented her in a cream three-piece suit, paired with a black shirt and tie. His outfit brought its own lovely contrast, combining the elegance of a light-coloured suit with the darker details of their Gothic inspiration.

Together, their wedding looks were beautifully considered without feeling overly coordinated. And the photographs capture something we love about alternative bridalwear: it doesn't have to announce itself through darkness or drama. Sometimes, the most unexpected choice is the one that feels entirely natural.

Finding Her Legend Dress

Chloe had visited just one bridal shop before discovering Legend Bridal online. From her initial appointment through to her final fittings, she found the experience relaxed and straightforward.

"The whole process was very smooth and easy," Chloe told us. "They let me have several guests for the initial try on, and at no point did I feel rushed or stressed by the process."

For us, that is exactly how finding a wedding dress should feel. There should be time to explore, to discover what you love, and to make decisions without feeling hurried or overwhelmed. Chloe also appreciated having three fittings before her wedding, giving us the opportunity to make any necessary adjustments and ensure Eos was ready for her journey to Italy. A wedding dress should feel like an extension of the person wearing it, whether that means something dramatic and theatrical or beautifully soft and romantic.

A Neo-Gothic Chapel and a Very Sweet Tradition

With family and friends travelling from across the world, Chloe and Liam's biggest logistical consideration was making sure everyone arrived safely in Tuscany. Fortunately, their plans came together beautifully, leaving them free to enjoy the celebration they had imagined.

For Chloe, the ceremony in the venue's neo-Gothic chapel was the most memorable part of the day. And alongside their vows, they included a traditional sweet-wine ritual that gave them a rather unexpected story to tell. The tradition involves the bride drinking first from a glass of sweet wine, before handing it to the groom, who must finish the remainder. Chloe thought she'd drunk about half. Unfortunately for Liam, she'd actually only managed a sip. Which meant he was left to finish almost the entire glass of exceptionally sweet wine at the altar. Not quite the romantic little sip he'd probably been expecting. 😂

But it's those wonderfully imperfect moments that so often become the stories we remember most fondly.

A Heart-Shaped Tiramisu and a Celebration of Love

While the ceremony was Chloe's favourite part of the day, the cutting of their heart-shaped tiramisu cake came a very close second. And honestly, a heart-shaped tiramisu at an Italian wedding might be one of the loveliest alternatives to a traditional wedding cake we've encountered.

There is something wonderful about the way Chloe and Liam brought together so many different elements without feeling the need to make them conform to a single aesthetic. Ancient mythology and Italian sunshine. Gothic architecture and romantic pink fabric. A cream suit with black details. Traditional rituals and their own personal love story. Their wedding wasn't defined by how closely it followed a particular idea of Gothic style. It was defined by the things that mattered to them.

Chloe's Advice for Couples Planning a Destination Wedding

After planning their celebration in Italy, Chloe has one particularly useful piece of advice for anyone considering a wedding abroad:

"If you are getting married abroad, I would highly recommend a wedding planner!"

With guests travelling internationally and the additional logistics of planning a celebration in another country, having experienced support can make the whole process much easier.

And she had one other recommendation:

"And of course I recommend getting your dress from Legend Bridal!"

We might be a little biased, but we wholeheartedly approve. 🖤
