The Journey of Bespoke Wedding Dresses

The world of bespoke wedding gowns can be a minefield, but Legend Bridal are about to make life a bit easier for you. We receive a number of queries regarding the process of our bespoke services, so we have put together this step by step guide, so that you know what to expect!

Initial Fitting

After contacting us you will be invited to our bridal studio in Great Harwood for an initial consultation. Here we will discuss your dream bridal gown and can try on our range of wedding dresses for inspiration! We will also sketch out your design and help you choose fabrics from our collection books. Whilst for most we can develop all of this during your first visit with us, we understand that you may need time to finalise your thoughts, thus making the ‘initial fitting’ stretch over two meetings. Please note that whilst we can take inspiration from other designer’s dresses, we are not able to directly copy them.

Toile Fitting

The next time we see each other, you’ll have something to try on (yay!!) However do not be alarmed by the plain fabric as this is a very basic mock-up wedding dress and is NOT a piece of the final outcome. This is simply to guarantee the fitting of your garment before we start making it for real! Here we will check the basic fit of the dress, positioning of sleeves, necklines and hemlines etc. If you are unhappy about anything, we can change this no problem at all!

Next Fittings

Over the coming months you will be invited back 2-3 times for more fittings to be certain that you’re loving your dress as much as you imagined. It’s at these appointments that you can make small changes to your bridal gown, whilst we work on perfecting the fit before adding the layers of detail.

Final Fitting

At last, the final fitting is here and you’re ready to lay eyes upon the dress of your dreams! We make last checks to ensure every detail is how you imagined.  Once you’re happy, you can leave your wedding dress at our studio ready to pick up a couple of days before the wedding to avoid the wandering eyes of your other half!

Common Questions

What do I Need to Bring?

We please ask you to bring your wedding shoes to all of your fittings as this will dramatically alter the length of your dress. We also ask for you to wear any wedding garments which could alter the size of your dress during the fittings too (special underwear etc).

How Long Before the Wedding do I Need to Order my Dress?

Whilst most brides contact us 1 year before the big day, we allow a minimum of 20 weeks before the wedding for bespoke services. This will depend on workload at the time you get in touch.

What about Payment of my Bespoke Wedding Gown?

For payment we ask you to pay one third of the total cost on confirmation of your order, one third at the toile fitting and the final third a month before your wedding. Our seamstresses will not begin your dress until one third has been paid.

You are also able to pay in weekly or monthly installments, however please note again that the making process will not begin until one third of the total cost has been paid for.

Do you Have Other Bespoke Services?

As well as our bespoke bridal gowns, we also have bespoke veils and capes, bespoke headpieces and bespoke suits for your significant other!

*Please note that we do not accept bespoke consultations via email or video call and you must come down to our studio in Great Harwood to discuss your dress with us.
