Alice & Connor's Woodland Wedding with a Custom Black Demeter Dress

When Alice and Connor began planning their wedding, they knew they wanted a day that reflected who they were as a couple.

After meeting through mutual friends at a hardcore punk festival in Leeds and spending almost a decade together, they weren't interested in following a traditional wedding template. Instead, they created a celebration that combined their love of nature, music and good company, with a woodland ceremony in Cheshire followed by a vibrant festival-inspired reception in the heart of Manchester.

The result was a wedding that felt completely personal to them.

A Relaxed Proposal by the Marina

Unlike many elaborate proposals, Connor chose a quiet moment together. After Alice returned from several weeks working in the Middle East in December 2023, the couple planned an evening out before Christmas. On the walk home from dinner, beside the marina where they used to live in Manchester, Connor asked the question.

The celebration that followed was exactly their style too – a drink together in a local bar and the excitement of beginning the next chapter of their lives.

"I was just glad he didn't decide to do it in front of everyone earlier in the day!" Alice laughs.

A Woodland Ceremony Inspired by Nature

The couple's wedding day began with an outdoor ceremony at Cheshire Woodland Weddings.

Inspired by their shared love of nature and the outdoors, they exchanged vows amongst the trees on what turned out to be one of the most beautiful weather days of 2026.

"We had a gorgeous outdoor ceremony in the woods in Cheshire. Luckily we had the best day for weather so far in 2026; right before it became too hot and humid and started to pour with rain the following few days after!"

Surrounded by family, friends and the natural beauty of the woodland setting, the ceremony offered a peaceful contrast to the lively celebrations that would follow later in the day.

A Festival-Inspired Reception Against the Odds

Just a month before the wedding, the couple's original reception venue unexpectedly closed down. For many couples, that kind of news would be enough to send panic levels through the roof, but Alice's experience working in festival production kicked in. Fortunately, within just a few days they secured a new venue, Lock 91 in Manchester City Centre, who embraced their plans and helped bring their vision to life.

The reception reflected a completely different side of the couple's personalities. Filled with vibrant pinks and oranges, festival-inspired styling and a fun, relaxed atmosphere, it was the perfect place to celebrate with their guests.

Amongst the thoughtful personal touches was a vinyl guest book that guests could sign and display in the couple's home, alongside a beautifully hand-painted mirror that quickly became a favourite photo opportunity throughout the day.

Finding the Perfect Black Wedding Dress

For Alice, finding a wedding dress wasn't something she approached with excitement. Like many people, previous experiences of clothes shopping had left her feeling self-conscious and uncomfortable.

"I never shopped for clothing in person anyway as about 8-12 months prior to trying on dresses for the first time, I was considerably bigger, which made shopping in person always really challenging and not something I enjoyed."

Even after losing weight and feeling more confident, she still struggled to find a dress that truly felt right. There was one thought that kept returning every time she found a dress she liked.

"I always knew in the back of my head whenever I found a dress I really liked – I'm sure I'd prefer it in black!"

Searching specifically for alternative wedding dresses in the North West led her to Legend Bridal. Interestingly, Alice wasn't looking for a dress that felt traditionally gothic. Instead, she wanted something that felt like her. After trying on a selection of designs, she fell in love with Demeter and began working with us to transform it into something completely unique.

"Everything I communicated to the team, they immediately understood my vision and guided me through the process of creating my custom, one-off design."

The final dress featured custom sleeves, a redesigned neckline and back, and layers of glitter tulle hidden beneath the skirt that added extra movement and sparkle throughout the day.

"The additions, such as the sleeves, altering the neckline and back, and adding the glittery tulle underneath the skirt for extra 'wow' really made the dress come to life!"

A Relaxed and Personal Experience

One of the things Alice appreciated most about the process with us was how comfortable the appointments felt.

"I loved coming to the studio – the appointments were always really chilled and relaxed, never super over-stimulating as you may find in larger dress shops."

For us, that means the world… creating a space where people feel comfortable enough to explore their ideas, ask questions and discover what feels right for them has always been one of the most important parts of what we do.

And for Alice, the experience was more than worth it.

"It was 1000% worth the investment, and I can honestly say I would recommend anyone to take a look at Legend Bridal in the future."

Advice for Other Couples

When asked what advice she would give to other couples planning their wedding, Alice's answer was refreshingly simple.

"Take your time with planning and don't overthink every teeny tiny detail. "Nobody is going to remember if you had custom straws at your drinks reception, or if the speeches ran over by a couple of minutes to your schedule."

Instead, she encourages couples to focus on what really matters.

"Enjoy the day, and remember it's for you and your partner."

Looking through the photographs of Alice and Connor's wedding, it's hard to imagine better advice. Their day was filled with personality, creativity and meaningful touches that reflected who they are as a couple. From a woodland ceremony beneath the trees to a vibrant city-centre celebration, every element felt authentic to them.

And that's exactly what makes a wedding unforgettable.
